Gluten Free Big Mac

Updated: Apr 15, 2021

If you are not in Hungary, or the 10 other European countries that offer Gluten Free McDonalds, then at some point, you are likely going to consider making your own. And guess what? It's actually really easy. Well I say that it's easy, but I made my own sesame buns for this, and that took 3 hours, so just buy some hamburger buns - this is Fast Food! In this article, I will give you the secret sauce recipe (which is not really secret at all) the order of the layers, and a few extra tips that make it a little bit more like the really thing. Let's jump into it.

Let's talk about the sauce first! The below ingredients need to be mixed together and if you have time, cover and let it sit in the fridge for an hour.

Special Secret Big Mac Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tbs gherkin relish

  • 1 tsp white vinegar

  • Pinch of white pepper

  • 1 tsp mild/ English mustard

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • 1/4 tsp caster sugar

That's it! Just mix it all together and you are good to go.

So what else will you need...

  • Meat/Vegetarian Patties - if you are going with vegetarian - I recommend Beyond Burger.

  • Iceburg lettuce (shredded)

  • Pre sliced cheese - the cheaper the better

  • Onions - finely diced

  • Pickles

  • Shoestring fries (make sure they are gluten free)

How to assemble

(NB) Because a Big Mac is 3 layers, normally its suggested to cut your burger bun in three sections. Well that's great, but I think we can all agree that gluten free buns do not respond well to that. So I suggest using one and a half buns, ever so slightly toasted.

  1. Spread the sauce on the bottom layer.

  2. Sprinkle on some finely diced onions

  3. Next is the shredded lettuce

  4. Slice of cheese

  5. Pickles

  6. And the cooked burger patty

  7. Middle bun layer

  8. More sauce

  9. Diced onions

  10. Lettuce

  11. Cheese

  12. Pickles

  13. Second patty

  14. MORE sauce

  15. Burger bun lid.

  16. Serve with fries.

For the real Big Mac experience, do it as fast as you can. Accuracy is not an issue. Enjoy!
